West Virginia Ranks As The Most Dangerous State For Workers

Sadly, in a recent study by the AFL-CIO West Virginia was ranked as the most dangerous state for workers in the entire country. According to the report, 95 workers were killed in 2010. West Virginia averages just over 14 deaths per 100,000 workers per year.

West Virginia's economy has been driven by coal for over a century. With the oil and gas boom, many of our residents are now landing gas drilling related jobs. Both mining and drilling occupations have a higher risk of injury than most other occupations. We must insist that our government pass and enforce proper safety laws and regulations and we must demand that these employers place safety before profitability.

AFL-CIO President Trumpka said it best: "As we move forward to build an economy for our future, it's important that we commit together to developing and issuing the kinds of rules critical to ensuring the safety of all working people."

For over 30 years, Fitzsimmons Law Firm has been standing up for West Virginia workers and fighting so they are ensured a safe place to work.
